Current Issues ::.
- There has been a patch update in the college's antivirus software. Filtering has been done with specific fields. Any attachments with viruses should now be dropped and filtered out of email inboxes. An antispam program is being tested where faculty and students can go to a secure link to choose from a list of spam emails and decide whether or not they would like to follow the link.
- The Seneca website www.senecac.on.ca is currently undergoing change. The committee plans to ask Seneca graphics design students to help with the new design. Only the looks of the website will be changed as all data will still be the same. The Marketing department is responsible for the image of the website and action will be taken in the summer. A committee will be formed to plan a launch for the website. They will also implement distant ed/online courses into the website.
- Web-based conferencing will hoped to be implemented very soon. The new program, Elluminate, will consist of audio and shared documents conferencing. This new program will be used for cross campus meetings.
- CollegeNet will be retiring and merging into MySeneca (faculty only) in mid-October. A committee will be formed to discuss the development (what needs to come out), communication (what needs to be communicated to the college as a whole), training, and support. The interface is retiring, but not the CollegeNet server. Faculty can still access their emails through webmail. The retirement of CollegeNet is due to the need for upgrading Netscape 4.7 to Netscape 7.1.
- Discussion regarding implementing new software in computer labs arises. This new software will force students to focus only what they are suppose to in computer based classrooms. Students can expect to have blank screens or a broadcast of the professors screen on all students computers. TerminatorX is a software that limits MSN chatting. FreezeX disables network card. These new software can be put to use as early as next January.
If you feel that you would like to address an issue regarding: school computers, My.Seneca, Webmail, iBOX, SIRIS, or anything you may feel is relevant to the college's information technology, please leave a message and I will voice it out to the Seneca's IT Committee.
